Characters Played: Allen Ridgeley and David Xanatos
Character Info:
Name: Margulis
Age: 45
Canon: Xenosaga
Pull Point: Post-death
Background Info:
History: Have a link.
Personality: The first thing someone will notice about Margulis on meeting him is that he takes himself very seriously. Stubborn, focused and arrogant are all good words to describe him, as is honorable. He's one to hold to his ideals, regardless of personal sacrifice or effort, and to devote his entire life to a cause. While an admirable trait to a certain point, Margulis has the potential to take it too far, blinding himself with faith in his goals to the point of accepting monumental losses of human life as long as they further those goals.

This is not to say that Margulis is without his moral limits. While he's willing to accept loss of life in the name of a greater cause, he finds murder on a whim abhorrent and restricts use of outright violence to when it seems appropriate. In a situation that does put him against outright enemies, he is arrogant but logical, not afraid to take full advantage of his resources or his enemies' weaknesses to win...unless someone actively angers him. When his emotions are high, he will abandon calm reasoning and take a highly aggressive approach, leaving himself open to more intelligent counters. With allies, he appears terse and strict, chastising people for small mistakes and generally acting as if he cares nothing for them beyond their usefulness. In reality, however, he's not as heartless as he appears. Though he distinctly prefers the tough love approach, he showed in his final moments that he still cares about his childhood friend turned enemy and is disappointed by the fact that they had to be at odds.

In fact, the moments before his death were a major point of change for Margulis. Though still prideful, having his delusions shattered allowed him to recognize and admit that he'd made mistakes, which he seemed genuinely regretful for. Still, he is a man largely driven by his beliefs, even if those beliefs are that his entire life has been a waste and a mockery.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Tower
Justification: The Tower card is a perfect representation of Margulis' recent life. On the positive side, it represents major changes, upheaval, enlightenment and freedom. Prior to and resulting in his death, Margulis gained knowledge of the truth of the organization he belonged to, thus turning his life on its side and causing a dramatic change in how he viewed his own actions.

Negatively, it represents the loss of belief, collapse of values, loss of expression, imprisonment, and negativity. Immediately prior to his death, he claimed that he envied the people who'd died with their beliefs intact, clearly implying that his were not. Everything he'd stood for his entire life had been pulled out from under him, leaving him a mess of resentment and disappointment.

Samples:

First Person Sample: *There is a very irate looking man glaring out through the feed, although he looks like the kind of person who considers 'irate' his base state.*

An antiquated communications device to say the least, but no matter. Someone had better be on the other end of this pathetic thing and ready to answer my questions. I find it highly questionable that this is any sort of afterlife, but I'm quite certain that explosion would have been fatal. Since the only remaining explanation is that someone saw fit to violate the Species Preservation Act to revive me, I want to know who and why, and for what purpose I've been left in this ridiculous reproduction of an ancient city.
Third Person Sample: Dark Hour, a time where monsters roamed the streets freely and the natives of this world were sealed up as coffins. These so-called Shadows didn't sound like they behaved like Gnosis, but Margulis still had to see them for himself. It was probably a stupid idea, going out in Dark Hour with his sword missing, but self preservation hadn't been high on his list of priorities ever since he found out the truth.

As the clock struck midnight, he saw the changes instantly. The eerie green light, the coffins scattered where there used to be people...and the Shadows appearing out of nowhere. The smart thing to do would have been to turn around and go right back inside, but his pride wouldn't allow him to simply run and hide. And, to his credit, he did remarkably well for an unarmed man...but he was still severely outnumbered, and the Shadows were closing in.

With a defiant glare, Margulis faced down his apparent doom. “You think you can terrify me? You have another thing coming, worms.”

'True conviction survives the shadows of fear.'

“What?”

'I am thou and thou art I...I am Paschar, and I shall light your path.'

With a burst of flame, the Shadow that had been seconds away from finishing Margulis dissolved, and the former Inquisitor wasn't sure whether to be awed or angry at the angel that stood before him. This was his Persona?

“Even my own subconscious sees fit to make a mockery of my faith...”
